Care-experienced young people, led by Matthew and Courtney, took charge of a Corporate and Community board meeting at Grimsby Town Hall on November 3rd, presenting their own agenda to hold service areas accountable.

The meeting, held in the council chambers, focused on ensuring young people in care and care leavers have their voices heard, reinforcing a shared commitment to support them. The agenda was shaped by understanding their lived experiences.
Key representatives from Health, Housing, and Community Safety, alongside Senior Leadership Team members from Children’s Services, were present. Each service area provided short presentations detailing what they have heard from young people, their actions to make a difference, and future plans.
Following the presentations, the young people had the opportunity to ask questions. This interaction allowed different services to commit to new actions and ensure requests are being fulfilled, demonstrating the importance of their input in shaping decisions and driving change.
“

"The board meeting was a brilliant opportunity for our care experienced young people; it gave them the opportunity to meet the people supporting them. It also gave service areas the chance to connect directly with the young people they are helping. It was very beneficial to all attendees in identifying the ways we can make a meaningful difference to all children in care."
