Communities across Barnsley will gather in November for remembrance services to honour those lost in war, with events including services at Barnsley Town Hall and a light installation.

Barnsley is set to hold its annual civic Remembrance Sunday service at the war memorial outside Barnsley Town Hall on Sunday, 8 November 2026, commencing at 11am. The service will feature a parade and wreath-laying ceremony. Those wishing to lay a wreath during the main service are encouraged to register in advance with the Mayor’s Office by Wednesday, 4 November, via email, phone, or in person at the Town Hall reception.
Armistice Day will also be observed on Wednesday, 11 November, with a service outside Barnsley Town Hall. This event will include a one-minute silence at 11am, followed by a brief service and wreath-laying involving local students from colleges, schools, and nurseries.
This year's commemorations include 'The Roses Remember', a week-long light and sound installation at The Seam. The Yorkshire Roses will be illuminated in red, symbolising poppies, while a recording plays the names of 2,000 individuals honoured on war memorials and commemorative rolls throughout the borough.
