Hull's Neurosurgical Department at Hull Royal Infirmary has received a £7,000 boost from a charity event organised by local actress Debra Stephenson and hospital staff.

A glitzy event held at Hull KR’s function room has successfully raised £7,000 for the Brocklehurst Neurosurgical Fund, which supports the Neurosurgical Department at Hull Royal Infirmary. The initiative was spearheaded by Consultant Neurosurgeon Mr Anuj Bahl, his wife Amy, and their friend Chris Fullard.
The evening featured a three-course meal and entertainment provided by Hull-born actress and comedian Debra Stephenson, known for her roles in popular TV shows such as Bad Girls, Coronation Street, and Doctors. She entertained guests, including the late Gordon Brocklehurst’s wife, Hilary, with impressions of well-known personalities.
The funds raised will be donated to the Brocklehurst Neurosurgical Fund, established in 1982 by the esteemed Hull neurosurgeon Gordon Brocklehurst, who passed away in November at the age of 93. The fund aims to purchase essential neurosurgical equipment for Hull Royal Infirmary and provide training and educational materials for staff.
Mr Bahl expressed his gratitude, stating, “Debra asked if there was any way she could help the team after I operated successfully on a close family member and this is what we came up with. She was fantastic.” He also thanked his wife Amy and Chris Fullard for their organisational skills and contacts that contributed to the event’s success.
Members of the local community, along with players and staff from Hull KR, also generously contributed through donations, auctions, and raffles held during the evening.
