A mother from Grimsby has published a deeply personal account of her son Theodore's premature birth and subsequent neonatal care, aiming to provide comfort to other families and raise vital funds for the unit.

Charlotte Robinson, a mother of three, has penned 'Three Months of Hope', a moving narrative detailing the first three months of her son Theodore's life. Theodore was born 12 weeks early at the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, weighing just 2lb 11oz, after Charlotte was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia.
The book chronicles the family's emotional journey through Theodore's critical early weeks, during which he underwent three major bowel surgeries and heart surgery. Charlotte describes the experience as a 'roller-coaster' and has taken two years to find the emotional strength to share their story.
“

"When we finally brought Theodore home, I remember saying that one day I wanted to write a book about our journey. At the time, I believed I was coping. I told myself we had simply done what any parent would do – we survived, we carried on and we looked forward. But trauma has a way of staying with you, even when life moves on."

Charlotte praised the extraordinary care provided by the nurses and doctors at the Grimsby Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where Theodore spent his first two weeks. She highlighted their calmness, compassion, and patience in explaining medical procedures and offering reassurance.
“

"The nurses and doctors were extraordinary. In the middle of what felt like a nightmare, they remained clam, compassionate and endlessly patient. They took the time to explain every monitor, every beep, every alarm, helping us to understand what all the unfamiliar sounds meant. Their reassurance didn’t take away our fear, but it gave us something we desperately needed in those early days – a little understanding and a reason for hope."

The book, which also features Theodore's older siblings, Lucy and Ellis, has been donated to the Grimsby NICU unit. Charlotte hopes her story will bring comfort to other parents navigating similar neonatal journeys, reminding them of their strength and resilience.
Three Months of Hope is available for purchase on Amazon UK in paperback, hardback, and Kindle formats, with all profits being donated to neonatal care units that supported Theodore's recovery.
