The Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby has successfully treated its first patients using a new £600,000 Special Procedures scanner, enhancing care for various medical conditions.

A new £600,000 Special Procedures scanner at the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby, has welcomed its first patients this week. This state-of-the-art equipment is primarily used to treat cancer patients and those undergoing palliative care, enabling a wide range of minimally invasive procedures.
These procedures include the insertion of stents, biopsies, and nephrostomy procedures to help drain urine directly from the kidneys. The new facility also offers treatments for enlarged blood vessels in the scrotum, which can affect fertility, and provides injections into joints for orthopaedic patients managing conditions such as arthritis.
The new equipment features a large-scale screen capable of rendering live X-rays and 3D images. Combined with the refurbished, light, and airy space, the clinical team anticipates a significantly improved patient experience. Measures to help patients relax, including privacy glass in the control room and the option to listen to music, have also been implemented.

"Our previous scanner was coming to the end of its useful life, so it’s wonderful to have this new equipment in place which will be more reliable and provide us with higher quality images to work from."
