The Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre is seeking volunteers, particularly young women, to help create a new exhibition celebrating the achievements of inspirational women from Grimsby and North East Lincolnshire.

The project offers an opportunity for individuals with no prior experience to uncover hidden stories and explore unseen items from the museum’s collection. Volunteers will play a key role in producing an exhibition focused on the borough’s women who have made a significant impact.
Notable figures highlighted include Brenda Fisher BEM, celebrated for her 1951 Channel swim record and later achievements, and Muriel Baker, the first female leader of the Council, who received a CBE and Freedom of the Borough for her public service. A gallery at the Heritage Centre is already named in Muriel Baker's honour.
The initiative also aims to recognise women making a difference in the present day. Those interested in participating are encouraged to email for more information.

"This is a fantastic idea. We would be nowhere without the incredible work of women, not just in this borough, but across the world. Figures like Muriel and Brenda deserve to have their moment in the spotlight and this is the perfect chance – I can’t wait to see the final exhibition."
