A 65-year-old man from Grimsby is set to compete in his first IRONMAN 70.3 in Cascais, Portugal, on Saturday 17 October, to honour his parents and raise funds for the hospital ward that cared for them.

Nick Strong will participate in the challenging event, which includes a 1.9km sea swim, a 90km bike ride with a significant climb, and a 21.1km half marathon along the coast. The funds raised will benefit C1 Glover, a cardiology ward at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby.
The challenge is undertaken in memory of his parents, Judy and Peter, who both passed away in 2025 due to heart-related issues. They received care on the C1 Glover ward during their final days.

"Mum and dad received wonderful care from the team at C1 Glover. Their compassion, professionalism and dedication meant an enormous amount to us, particularly during those final days."
