The initiative aims to support projects that the community wishes to develop together, fostering a brighter future for Grimsby. Two distinct funding streams are currently available for applications.
The Give it a Go fund offers grants of up to £10,000 for individuals or groups testing a new idea in the town for the first time. Applicants do not need prior funding experience or an existing organisation.
For those with established projects ready for expansion, the Strengthen & Grow fund provides grants of up to £50,000. Technical advisers will be available to review initial proposals after submission.
Decisions on how the funds are allocated will be made by volunteer Decision Makers from Grimsby, ensuring local ambitions guide the spending. The pilot fund was designed in collaboration with the community, with further application opportunities expected in 2026.
Earlier this year, Jim Elliott, known as Grimsby’s Canoe River Cleaner, received backing from the fund for his 'Source to Sea' guided canoe experiences along the River Freshney. His project was among nine chosen for support.
“"This was real local people making local decisions, and that felt really different."
Elliott, whose guided canoe trips are set to begin this autumn, likened the process to a jury, stating, “A jury is made up of real people, because we’re all intelligent and able to make decisions. Why not us?”
Further details on how to apply, along with any questions, can be found on the Growing Together Fund website.
