A 23ft Nordmann Fir, generously donated by Newlincs Development Ltd., will take centre stage in Grimsby town centre for the upcoming Christmas Festival on Saturday, 28 November.

The local community is set to embrace the festive spirit as a magnificent 23ft Nordmann Fir tree, grown locally by Strawson Woodland near Louth, is set to adorn St. James’ Square in Grimsby. This initiative was made possible by a donation from North East Lincolnshire Council’s waste management contractor, Newlincs Development Ltd.
Newlincs Development, which operates the energy from waste plant at Stallingborough and community recycling centres in Grimsby and Immingham, has also provided a second tree for the Community Recycling Centre (CRC) in Grimsby. Sharon Hunt, Operations Director at Newlincs, expressed her enthusiasm: “At Newlincs we love Christmas and we’re thrilled to be donating a fabulous Christmas tree for Grimsby town centre this year. Our award-winning staff at the Grimsby and Immingham Community Recycling Centres will be pulling all the stops out again this year with their salvaged and upcycled tip decorations. Their efforts help raise thousands of pounds for local charities and good causes, we’re grateful to everyone who visits and donates. We hope we can help spread some Christmas cheer around Grimsby town centre this festive season with this wonderful tree. Merry Christmas everybody!”
The tree will be a focal point for the Great Grimsby Christmas Festival, scheduled for Saturday, 28 November, from 12pm to 7pm. The festival promises a day of live entertainment, a Christmas market, food and drink stalls, and family-friendly activities across various town centre locations. The event will culminate in the Grimsby light parade and the Christmas tree light switch-on in St James’ Square, officially marking the start of the festive season.
Councillor Bob Callison, Portfolio Holder for Environment, Tourism and Culture, highlighted the importance of community involvement: “We know how important Christmas is to residents in North East Lincolnshire and I’m thrilled to be partnering with local businesses to give the borough a worthy Christmas tree. I would also like to thank NewLincs for their generous donation to make this a reality. All that’s left for me to say is watch this space for more information on the wonderful Christmas event.”
