Kevin Clifton, known internationally for his success in dance and musical theatre, has expressed his strong support for Grimsby's GY28 bid. He stated, “We’ve got to win this bid, it’s a brilliant town full of brilliant and talented people.” Clifton, whose parents Keith and Judy founded Cliftons Dance Academy in Grimsby, believes the town's bid offers crucial opportunities for its residents.
Clifton, who was in Grimsby to support his friend Sam Neal of Samuel Neal Kitchens at an event for The Brain Tumour Charity, emphasised his enduring connection to the town. "I always love coming back to Grimsby. I don’t live here now, but I still call it home," he said. He noted how his Grimsby roots have become a significant part of his identity, with many people now referring to him simply as 'Kevin from Grimsby'.
The GY28 team is preparing to submit Grimsby's final bid to the Government at the end of November. Grimsby is among 15 towns competing for the UK City of Culture 2028 title, with the winner and runners-up to be announced next Spring.
“"Me and my sister were afforded opportunity and went to the moon as we appeared on Strictly Come Dancing. There are so many others who could do great things."
