Residents in North East Lincolnshire can still access free careers advice, training, and employment support, with some services now easier to access without an appointment.

Free careers advice, training, and employment support services are continuing for residents in North East Lincolnshire, with some changes to delivery making access easier. While the national approach to careers support is evolving, the Adult Careers Service in the region remains committed to providing free, friendly assistance for individuals looking to take their next career step.
One-to-one careers advice will still be available at the Careers Café in Freshney Place, located opposite Next. Residents can visit without an appointment to discuss their plans, whether seeking employment, considering a career change, or exploring training and learning opportunities. The team also offers support with confidence-building, childcare, wellbeing, and overcoming other challenges.
The café serves as a hub, bringing together various organisations and services. TARGET NEL CIC, who manage the café daily, are present alongside visiting local organisations throughout the week. The careerShift programme continues, offering a six-week approach to employment readiness, including employability sessions, self-evaluation, wellbeing, finance, and personal development support. It also provides opportunities to connect with local employers. For young people aged 18 to 24, careerShift BOOST offers four free sessions over two weeks to enhance confidence and preparation for work.
Volunteering and placement opportunities are also being delivered across North East Lincolnshire, including through local Family Hubs. These include volunteering roles in infant feeding peer support, parent and infant relationship support, and assisting with playgroups. Additionally, the service collaborates with counselling students at Grimsby Institute to offer free counselling placements to local residents.
The Youth Hub at the Careers Café continues to provide one-to-one support for benefit recipients aged 18 to 25, in conjunction with Grimsby Jobcentre Plus, to build skills and find opportunities. Following service delivery changes, careers advisers will also have an increased presence at the Jobcentre to assist those working with a work coach.

"While the way some of our services are delivered is changing, our commitment to helping local people achieve their goals stays the same. Whether you are looking for your first job, thinking about a career change, returning to work or simply unsure about what you want to do next, our team is here to help. Come and have a chat with us at the Careers Café and we can help you explore your options and find the support that is right for you. We have helped thousands of local people take their next step and we want residents to continue coming to us for the same high-quality advice, guidance and support."

"We want everyone in North East Lincolnshire to have the opportunity to build their skills, improve their prospects and achieve their ambitions. The changes to the way careers services are delivered nationally are significant, but our commitment to supporting local people remains firmly in place. By keeping support services in the heart of the community, we can help more residents find the right opportunities and continue to build a stronger borough. I would encourage anyone who is unsure about their next step to come along to the Careers Café and speak to the team. You do not need to know exactly what you want to do – that is what our advisers are there to help with."
