Over a hundred people in Grimsby have successfully disposed of unwanted household items, including beds, microwaves, and fences, thanks to the return of the Skip It scheme.

The initiative, first launched in 2018, aims to improve residents' recycling habits and simplify rubbish disposal for those unable to reach the local tip. Following a unanimous cross-party budget amendment at Full Council, the scheme is now back in operation.
The inaugural event took place at Duke of York Gardens, Corporation Road, Grimsby, attracting 184 visits throughout the day. Attendees brought a wide array of items, from old lamps and garden waste to an old canoe.
For those who missed the first opportunity, further events are scheduled weekly until mid-November, weather permitting. Confirmed dates include Tuesday, October 13, at Garibaldi Street car park (DN32 7DU), and Tuesday, October 20, at the car park near Fusion and Clee Fields (DN32 9SW), both in Grimsby.
More information on accepted items and other details can be found on the council's website. Councillor Darren Mayne, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Recycling and Energy, described the event as an "absolute success," noting that hundreds of people cleared out items that might otherwise have remained in their homes or gardens, potentially leading to fly-tipping.
