A new 'PlayZone' multi-use games area has opened in Immingham, providing residents of all ages with a new space to get active and enjoy sports.
The new facility, located on Roval Drive near Coombs Brigg Primary Academy, features a 30 by 20 metre pitch equipped with basketball hoops, benches, goals, fencing, and LED floodlighting for year-round use.
Managed by Immingham Town Council, the 'PlayZone' emphasises free community access, with an online booking system to ensure fair usage and safety. Formal sessions can also be booked by groups for a small fee.
The project is a result of a partnership between the Football Foundation, North East Lincolnshire Council, the FA, and Immingham Town Council. This initiative aims to build on the success of similar 'PlayZone' facilities opened in Grimsby in April 2025 and at Kent Street in September.
“
"We’re thrilled to be opening our third PlayZone and offering something new to the people of Immingham. It’s important that people have spaces to come to and use however they want – that freedom is essential in keeping people active. This is a great addition to the town and I’ve no doubt it’ll be well used."
This development aligns with the Council’s broader 'Move Together' initiative, which aims to promote physical activity and healthier lifestyles across the borough, from casual basketball play to kicking a ball.
“
"The Playzone is a great addition for our Town and will help support and promote all types of sports for all ages. The Council was delighted to provide match-funding for the project and would like to thank North East Lincolnshire Council officers and the Football Foundation for making this happen."
“
"Good quality playing facilities have a transformative impact on physical and mental health and play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities. We’re delighted that the local community in Immingham will now be able to enjoy all these benefits thanks to the new facilities at Roval Drive."
The Football Foundation, in collaboration with the Premier League, The FA, and the Government, is dedicated to improving grassroots facilities nationwide, with projects like this contributing to the physical and mental well-being of local communities.
