As autumn colours transform the landscape around Manvers Lake in South Yorkshire, the community gathered for the annual Autumn Memory Walk on 18th October. The event, dedicated to love, reflection, and remembrance, saw participants from across the region come together.
Dearne Valley College, a sponsor of the event, highlighted its commitment to serving the communities beyond its classrooms. The college expressed pride in supporting this moving occasion, which offers a peaceful sanctuary along the picturesque trails and calm waters of Manvers Lake.
The walk is organised to benefit local healthcare charities, including the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity and Barnsley Hospital Charity. It provides a space for individuals to honour loved ones who are no longer present, offering a comforting atmosphere for sharing stories and cherished moments.
Participants have the opportunity to leave personal messages of remembrance along the route. The college staff and learners contributed by laser-cutting wooden hearts for attendees to write heartfelt messages, and a dedicated plaque will be placed on a tree as a lasting tribute.
The event underscores the resilience within the local area, with walkers gathering, wearing memory bibs, and crossing the finish line together. The college stated its honour in supporting the walk, walking with participants and honouring those they hold dear.
