The borough will come together for the annual Remembrance Sunday parade and civic service, taking place outdoors in Clifton Park. The event will feature a parade, the national two-minute silence, and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph War Memorial.
The parade, commencing at 10:35am from outside the Garden House in Clifton Park, will include civic dignitaries, veterans, and uniformed groups. It will proceed through the park towards the Fun Park, past the Bandstand, and down to the Cenotaph.
Reverend Canon Phil Batchford of Rotherham Minster will lead the Act of Remembrance. Wreaths will be laid on behalf of the borough by the Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Haroon Rashid, and Rotherham Council Leader, Cllr Chris Read.
Members of the public are welcome to lay their own wreaths after the official service concludes. Following the ceremony, the parade will return to the Garden House, where His Majesty’s representative, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, and the Mayor of Rotherham will take the salute.
“"I am honoured to support this annual tradition and feel a deep sense of pride in standing alongside residents to pay our respects to Rotherham heroes, both past and present. I encourage everyone to join us as we take this time to reflect on the profound service and sacrifices made by those who have defended people’s freedoms."
Parking is available in the Clifton Park car park (accessed via Doncaster Road). Alternative free parking can be found in Rotherham Town Centre, a short walk from the park. Please note, Clifton Park Museum car park will have no public parking available until 12pm on Sunday 8 November.
Armistice Day, marking the end of the First World War at 11am on 11 November 1918, will also be commemorated. The Mayor of Rotherham will lead a two-minute silence at 10:55am on Wednesday 11 November at All Saints Square in Rotherham Town Centre, inviting residents to join.
