TK Maxx has confirmed its relocation to the former House of Fraser unit at Freshney Place in Grimsby, a move set to enhance the town centre's appearance and footfall.
The popular clothing and homewares retailer, currently located on the first floor of Freshney Place, will move to the larger 22,000 sq. ft. space in the former House of Fraser building. This new location offers increased visibility and customer access, with frontage onto both Victoria High Street and Freshney Place.
The refurbishment of the building's exterior onto Victoria Street is expected to significantly improve the appearance of the town centre. The move aligns with the ongoing development of the adjacent leisure extension, due to open in 2027, which will feature a cinema, entertainment, restaurants, and a new market space, aiming to create a vibrant, all-day destination.

"This move will bring renewed energy to the town centre. TK Maxx’s relocation will help to build back the high street, by restoring and improving the exterior of the former House of Fraser Unit. This move will align with the vision to regenerate the town centre whilst securing this popular, national retailer for local shoppers into the future."
The Council purchased the former House of Fraser building in December 2023. Over £1.6 million will be invested in internal refurbishment works led by 7Formation Ltd. before the retailer moves in. Separately, a bid has been submitted to The National Lottery Heritage Fund for the "Window to 1913" project, aiming to restore the historic building's frontage on Victoria Street.

"The relocation of TK Maxx to the former House of Fraser building is a significant step in bringing the building back into active use and improving the Victoria Street frontage. Together with the development taking place nearby, it will contribute to the continuing regeneration of Grimsby town centre."
The unit currently occupied by TK Maxx within Freshney Place will be re-marketed or considered for alternative uses.
