A new specialist clinic has been launched at Doncaster Royal Infirmary to provide coordinated care for pregnant women living with epilepsy, bringing together maternity and epilepsy specialists.

The Epilepsy in Pregnancy Clinic, situated within the Antenatal Clinic at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, unites maternity and epilepsy specialists. This initiative aims to ensure women receive coordinated care and support throughout their pregnancy journeys.
Operating monthly, the clinic is part of DBTH’s Maternal Care Bundle. Its objectives include improving inter-service communication, strengthening care coordination, and promoting safer, more integrated care for both women and their babies.
The service collaborates closely with the Epilepsy Specialist Nursing Service at Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH). This partnership allows women to benefit from specialised multidisciplinary expertise during their pregnancy.

Pregnant women with epilepsy can be referred by their healthcare professional to the Maternal Medicine Team. This team is led by Consultant Obstetrician Dr Daksha Bhobe and Maternal Medicine Specialist Midwife Jane Webb. Following referral, an appointment will be arranged with the Epilepsy in Pregnancy Clinic.
