Robyn Bradley, an engineering apprentice with a background in aviation, has been honoured with the Governors’ Award at York College’s 2026 Graduation Ceremony.

The 21-year-old, who hails from Lincoln, is currently undertaking an apprenticeship with Siemens Mobility, working on trains. Her tutors recognised her for developing complex electropneumatic systems and implementing modern production manufacturing methods, while also setting exceptionally high personal targets.
Bradley's passion for engineering was ignited by her granddad, who had a garage where he built models. Her interest in aircraft was further fuelled by her parents' service in the Royal Air Force. She secured work experience with the RAF and the Red Arrows, describing the latter as an 'incredible experience'.
She highlighted the importance of diversity in the engineering sector, stating, “It's important that we get a variety of people that are interested in engineering and who are brave enough to go and try it, because something really wonderful might come from that.” Women currently constitute approximately 17% of the UK’s engineering and technology workforce.
Bradley's role at Siemens Mobility involves stripping down and reassembling train undercarriages. She expressed a desire to eventually move into the aerospace industry after completing her current studies.
The graduation ceremony took place at York Minster, an experience Bradley described as 'amazing' and 'exciting'. She credited her tutors at York College for their support throughout her Level 4 HNC in Engineering for England qualification, which she studied on a day-release basis.
